Note:
The first work of Paolo Cortesi (or Cortese), written c. 1490 and dedicated to Lorenzo de’ Medici, was not printed until 1734. The conversation between Alexander (Alessandro Farnese, 1468-1549, who in 1534 became Pope Paul III.), Antonius (possibly A. Veroli) and Cortesi himself reviews at least 94 Latin authors of Trecento and Quattrocento Italy. – Corteses Dialogue was followed by another ‘recensus’ of modern Latin writers, Giglio Gregorio Giraldi’s ‘De poetis suorum temporum’ (soon to be published in ITALI, too).
There exists a modern edition of the Dialogus: Paolo Cortesi, De hominibus doctis dialogus, a cura di Maria Teresa Graziosi. Roma: Bonacci, 1973.
